For Arla, Britain’s decision to leave the EU is both exciting and daunting. For every new opportunity that opens up for new dairy export markets, there is a concern about access to markets closer to home; for every call to revamp the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), there are concerns about what will happen to the levels of support that farmers receive. To fully understand the possible impact of Brexit on our business and farmer owners we have developed different scenarios and modelled against the potential Brexit outcomes. We have also asked our farmers for their views on Brexit and you will find a summary of their concerns and reflections within this report. Finally, we commissioned the independent economics consultancy, Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr) to complete an Economic Impact Assessment to measure our economic footprint in the UK. Key findings are shared in this report and I am proud to say that Arla Foods contributes £6 billion in Gross Value Added to the UK economy and that the combined businesses of Arla and its farmer owners directly and indirectly support more than 119,000 jobs in total. Like many businesses, Arla and its farmer owners rely on free trade, particularly when it comes to exporting – in 2016, Arla exported to 21 countries within the EU and 48 outside of it. In addition, the UK also imports a number of popular Arla products from elsewhere in the EU. Armed with these insights, Arla will continue to be at the heart of discussions around Brexit, to ensure we get the best possible outcome for our farmer
